Just a couple of miles down the road, Princeton Day has become one of The Hun School’s biggest rivals. The two teams squared off yesterday in an intense game which Hun narrowly edged over Princeton Day 12-10.
The Hun School entered the contest ranked 39th in the DigitalSports’ National Lacrosse Rankings and 4th in New Jersey. Unranked Princeton did not let that intimidate them, as the Panthers took the first quarter 3-2.
The Raiders responded with a five-goal second, giving Hun a 7-5 lead at halftime. The third quarter went 5-3 in Princeton’s favor, sending the game into the fourth deadlocked at 10-10.
In a defensive fourth quarter, neither team let the other gain any momentum. Finally, with just over five minutes to go, Cole West broke the tie on an unassisted goal.
Try as they might, Princeton Day could not beat goalie Jonathan Levine, who stopped two of the Panthers’ best opportunities late in the game. With 1:19 remaining, Robert Kuhn scored an insurance goal for Hun, securing the win for the Raiders.
Kuhn was the base of the team, not only recording four goals and an assist, but only scooping up a game-high eight groundballs. West finished with two goals and two assists. Adding to the tally, Owen Black netted three goals and an assist.
Now 5-0, the Hun School is off and running on a solid start to the season. The Raiders next face Lawrenceville on April 11.
